New Bedford Whaling National Historic Park

New Bedford was a small whaling town on the coast of Massachusetts. During the 1800’s it was a very busy city, flourishing on the whaling industry. It was the whaling capital of the world. New Bedford also played a very important role in the Underground Railroad.

We visited the Visitor Center first, to decide what we should do and where we should go. We started quite late in the day, so many things were closing by the time we arrived. We walked along the cobblestone streets, looking at all the old buildings. While we were walking we worked on our 95th Junior Ranger Program. Because we started so late in the day we had to mail our Ranger books back to the Visitor Center.

It was a short visit, but we learned a lot about whales and the whaling industry in the small town of New Bedford.

  1. Hi all, If you are heading towards CT. you should check out Mystic Seaport. We were there a month ago and it was so much fun and a lot to learn about the early ship building, fishing, and whaling industries. I highly recommend it. Give yourselves a whole day as there is just so much to see and do.
