El Malpais National Monument

At El Malpais National Monument (pronounced ma pie ees) in New Mexico, we picked up  junior ranger books and drove to a lava tube. It was a short tunnel full of boulders.  We climbed though it 6 times.

Then we continued walking to the sink hole, an old lava tube had run underneath it. Then it collapsed creating a 80 foot hole.

Then we went to the bat cave,  the sign  said it was monitored by a camera (we thought maybe Bruce Wayne was keeping an eye out.)  Then on our way back to the car we met some people.  While mom and dad were visiting with them,  Cali and I did the lava tube a couple more times.  Then we headed off to El Morro National Monument.
